Summer Cabaret Concert
As most of the country were preparing for a football extravaganza between England and Netherlands during the Euro Quarterfinals, Liskeard School had other ideas! Our Summer Cabaret Concert on 10th July was an opportunity to showcase the many talented musicians that we have here at the school.
The New Hall was packed with an expectant audience, and the performers did not disappoint. A wide range of musical ensembles and soloists ensured that all musical tastes were catered for and the audience were treated to a versatile repertoire fit for any concert venue.
There were too many outstanding performances to name everyone, but it was lovely to welcome back Alicia on the Harp for her final ever performance at the school.
The evening was superbly compared by Kara and Paige, both outgoing Year 11 prefects. We were also fortunate to welcome back many of our outgoing Year 11 GCSE Music class, who (as always) performed with such distinction.
A poignant part of the evening was a tribute song to recognise the outstanding contributions made to the Music Department by Miss Jane Warwick, leaving the school and moving into semi-retirement after 40 years of teaching. Singing a rendition of ‘Thank-you for the Music’, the staff of the Creative Arts Faculty sang with gusto, supported by the virtuosic piano skills of Ms Farrow.
The evening ended with an energetic rendition of ‘You Can’t Stop the Beat’ by both student and staff singers!
A special thank-you to Mr Bond, Mr Zalick and Miss Warwick for their work within the Music Department. The evening would not have been a success without the many staff who offered their services, either as musicians/singers during the evening or helping out with refreshments/taking photos/ setting up the equipment and assisting after the concert. It really was a whole school effort!
As we wish Miss Warwick the very best for her future away from the school, we look forward to welcoming a new Head of Music in September, and look forward to showcasing the musical talent that we are so proud of during our Christmas Concert in December!
