Our Trust


Liskeard School and Community College is a member of SMART (South East Cornwall Multi Academy Regional Trust), along with two other secondary schools and three primaries. At Liskeard, we believe in ‘achieving more together’ - the ethos and culture we have is based on the view that we all benefit through co-operation and by supporting each other. The joining of SMART and forming a close partnership with other like-minded local schools, therefore, was the obvious and most natural thing to do. We are genuinely delighted about the opportunities that being part of SMART has brought to the staff, the students and the wonderful community of Liskeard and look forward to how we can develop this further.

LOCAL GOVERNOR VACANCIES

We currently have vacancies on our Local Governing Committees for Co-Opted and Parent Governors.

Being a school governor is a challenging but hugely rewarding role. It will give you the chance to make a real difference to young people, give something back to your local community and use and develop your skills in a board-level environment. You will also be joining the largest volunteer force in the country.

Schools need governing committees that have a balance and diversity of knowledge, skills and experience to enable them to be effective. Ofsted (the national inspection body for schools) has repeatedly noted that the most effective schools demonstrate effective leadership and management – including by the governing committee.

Anyone aged over 18 can be a governor (but there are some exceptions) and you do not need to be a parent. There is no requirement for you to have an understanding of the education system, just the necessary skills, character and time to contribute. Schools need and benefit from a range of professional knowledge on their governing committee including education, finance, human resources, legal, marketing and public relations, property and estates management, and organisational change.

Governors can expect to attend around 6 meetings per year, held either in the afternoon or the early evening.
