Year 9 – Take your Child to Work Day
At Liskeard School we are continually looking for different ways to support our students in preparation for their future career. Work experience has long been recognised as one of the best ways to help young people in this journey.
We are therefore delighted to highlight a very special day that took place recently - ‘Take Your Child to Work Day’!
This day provides an opportunity for Year 9 students to accompany a parent/carer, relative or family friend to their place of work and gain a full day of valuable work experience. To give students a ‘taste’ of the world of work, and in particular, to enable them to recognise the relevance of the school curriculum to the workplace.
Students acquired first-hand experience of the workplace and learnt new skills that can help prepare them for their future. They also gained a new appreciation for the hard work their parents do every day, and many students earned valuable new skills, such as confidence and teamwork.
We had students secure first-hand work experience in a variety of work places from farms to primary schools, in multinational companies to self-employed trades people. For those students that stayed in school, we had a visit from Plymouth City College.
A huge 'thank you' to parents and carers who supported this valuable opportunity for our students, thank you to the businesses that welcomed in our students and started preparing them for future careers. Lastly, thank you to all the Year 9 students for representing the Liskeard School with such maturity and resilience.
